Most long-time attendees of the CCA National Specialty remember Renee Rizzo as the most dominant junior handler of her time. “Rookie” was the other part of that dynamic duo. Sold to a 9-year-old Renee, Rookie was just six months old when Renee won her first CCA Best Junior Handler Award in 1995. By the time they were done in the Juniors ring, Renee had an impressive resume that included being the first junior handler to retire the perpetual CCA Junior Showmanship Trophy – winning the CCA Best Junior Handler Award 3 times, multiple Top Junior of the Year awards, competing at Westminster in Madison Square Garden in New York City, and at Crufts in England. No other junior handler in the history of the breed has approached Renee & Rookie’s resume.
Rookie had quite a record in his own right, winning multiple Herding Group 1s and a Westminster Award of Merit. Rookie was always full of energy & perfectly attuned to Renee’s lead. His personality, intelligence & crystal blue coloring were a carbon copy of his dam, Ch. Wyndlair Secret Showcase. It was joy to see Rookie every year at the National.
Following Rookie, Renee patiently waited 10 years for her next great blue male…and what a dog it was to become: GChP. Wyndlair Cherokee Vindication – Top BISS-Winning Male in Breed History.
